Professor Hae-Young Kee Among U of T Scholars Named Royal Society Fellows

This year, eighteen faculty members from the University of Toronto have been honoured as Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada. This prestigious designation is awarded to the nation’s most eminent scholars, artists, and scientists, recognizing their exceptional contributions to their respective fields.

Leah Cowen U of T’s Vice-President of Research and Innovation, and Strategic Initiatives, expressed immense pride over this achievement: “These researchers are at the forefront of disciplines that span the arts, social sciences, humanities, and sciences, and their work stands to have a significant impact on academic inquiry, policy, and societal well-being.”

One of the newly appointed Fellows is Professor Hae-Young Kee, CQIQC member and Faculty member at the Department of Physics. In a communication issued on September 8, Professor Paul Kushner, Chair of the Department, shared this remarkable achievement: “[Hae-Young Kee’s] ground-breaking discoveries have not only spurred exploration for new materials but have also extended the boundaries of knowledge into the realm of quantum matter.” He emphasized Kee’s reputation as a world-leading theoretician and highlighted her exceptional contributions to quantum materials.

Professor Kee’s impressive list of accolades includes the Sloan Fellowship, APS Fellowship, CIFAR Quantum Materials Fellowship, Tier I and II Canada Research Chairs, and the CAP/DCMMP Brockhouse Medal. These recognitions reflect her significant influence and outstanding work in her field.
